Grumman XF-10F-1 Jaguar Design 83

The Jaguar was one of the world’s first variable-sweep wing fighters. The wing sweep was from 50 ft. 7 in. max to 36 Ft. 8 in. swept back. This was one of the few Grumman designs that didn’t make it into the Navy’s inventory. It had a limited production run of 1, BuNo 128311.

At an LIEF meeting some years back, a Grumann aerodynamist came and gave a talk about the F10. He had built a RC model of the Jaguar to show what he thought would be its flight problems. One being the initial tail design that would cause major longitudinal control difficulties. It did.

The one positive side of the F10 was that the wing-sweep mechanism proved to be reliable and effective. Proof of this is the F14 Tomcat.
