January Meeting

P.O. Dan Klemfuss, a pilot with the Suffolk County, NY Police Department Aviation Unit was the guest speaker. Dan is the son of LIEFC life member Bob Klemfuss. Dan gave a brief history of the PD aviation unit that was established in 1965. The unit has three helicopters, two MD902 Explorers and an A Star American Eurocopter. Flying out of Islip McArthur and Gabreski airports, they provide many services for Suffolk County. Criminal Searches – Medical Transport – Land and Water Rescues – Pursuits and Aerial Surveillances are just a few of assignments that are carried out by the pilots of the Aviation Unit. Dan, using a slide presentation combined with his personal experiences, provided an enjoyable meeting for everyone. Thanks Dan.
